license

Free to read. Licensed to ship.

Read everything freely; license the library to deploy it commercially. The plain-language frame is here. The full legal text is a separate drafting task, summarized faithfully below.

The library

The Contexture library source is public under PolyForm Noncommercial for personal and noncommercial use, plus a separate commercial license for deployment in paid work. Same structure as EPPlus: source fully open, commercial use sold separately.

The book and docs

The book and the docs are content, not code. They sit under standard copyright, all rights reserved, and are free to read on this site. Do not treat them as open source or Creative Commons. "Free to read here" is an access grant, not a redistribution license.

What the commercial license grants

  • Read and evaluate: always free, for everyone.
  • Personal and noncommercial use: free under PolyForm Noncommercial.
  • Solo / freelance commercial license: deploy in paid client work as an independent practitioner.
  • Agency / team commercial license: deploy across client engagements, with a certificate of license per engagement.

Both commercial tiers include the deployment right, ready-to-deploy assets (recipes, templates, modules), and the assistant when it ships.

What it does not include

  • No hosted service. You self-host the single file.
  • No update subscription. The artifact is stable and complete by design.
  • No phone-home enforcement. Licensing is honor-system for solo practitioners, contractual for agencies.

The full commercial license text is a drafting task (founding brief initiative 2). This page is the faithful plain-language summary, not the binding text. Have the commercial license reviewed by an IP lawyer before launch.
